100th web log post!! Another Other Voices!! Purling Hiss!!
One Hundred messages to you lucky readers. Truly a milestone. Enough celebrating. Here's another guest music review from Max Milgram.. a concise, no-nonsense description of a shredding 6-track compact disc made by PURLING HISS of Philadelphia.

"Purling Hiss" - a music review by Max Milgram
Aparently "purling" is an actual word having to do with rippling water or something. Huh. This is the solo project of perenially jolly Birds of Maya (seriously among the best modern full-throttle rock bands) guitarist Mike Pollize. Those familiar with the Birds' frenzied action will find much to rejoice here, with a similarly overloaded assault. What this lacks in BOM's pounding groove more than makes up for in slobbering guitar excess. The opening track has a weird avant-Van Halen tech feel. Things really get going on the second track that is right up the alley for fans of High Rise, Afflicted Man, Monoshock, and other such gonzoid psycho-delic guitar punkers, complete with Pollize howling something about his baby. There's riffs on this puppy, but mainly just constant wah-ed out guitar shredding. Is this what Terry Brooks sounds like?

NEW MUSIC FOR AMERICANS TO BUY
RR//TT#22 WATERY LOVE'S "Debut 45""In the never interesting saga to determine Punk's best primitive hooligans, MEN will blog & sputter endlessly about Drunks W/Guns or Brainbombs as martyrs of the cause. And who amongst us would deny either their berth on the altar? As an agnostic, I cannot count the stations of said cross, but I do respect it nonetheless. So it's refreshing to see a band wander into this Garage of Gethsemane & fire up their own corroded engine, pistons wheezing, oil belching, you know how it goes; many are crucified, but few resurrected. Where Watery Love fit into this scenario remains to be determined, but when it comes to archaic beats, they're already dragging their knuckles over sainted simpletons such as Butter Utter, Deutscher Abschaum & Just Urbain. 45 rpm's haven't sounded this hairy in many moons & as debut's go, they don't come more scabrous. Get one now before they learn to talk".

Other Voices...

Occasionally, voices other than that of God will be published on this web log -- voices that are under-represented in the Media. So here's the voice of first-time, long-time Max Milgram. We asked him to discuss a turtle, some ducks, and the correct way to roast some pork. Instead he got on his high-horse and decided to tell you all about some new record or some shit..
"Known Quantity" by WILLIE LANE
a review by Max Milgram
"Known Quantity" is a slow crawl through nocturnal guitar ragas and blues. Some of it is reminiscent of Sandy Bull at his most FX-damaged but this is much more time-warping and dislocating and much less mustache- and heroin-driven than Bull ever was. This also appears to be less linear, if I may be so bold, than many current and past six string wrestlers, giving a pleasingly disorienting and alien vibe. Lest anyone accuse me of uncharacteristic optimism, I guess I could complain that the song titles aren't racist enough. Regardless, this is an excellent contemporary psychedelic guitar burner that sounds equally at home during late night binge drinking as it does at an early morning frittata preparation.
