HOME BLITZ OUT OF PHASE on 12" vinyl LP.. all gone

It's for sale and it comes with a lyric sheet and an mp3 download. It was written, performed, and recorded by Daniel DiMaggio in Princeton, NJ and it was mastered to vinyl by Bob Weston at the Chicago Mastering Service in Chicago. What does it sound like? It sounds like the greatest album that HOME BLITZ has ever released on Richie Records // TestosterTunes.

THIS RECORD IS SOLD OUT FROM RR//TT. Try your favorite record store or online music retailer for a copy... Or buy one from the band at an upcoming performance... And if you've already placed an order, don't be afraid. Mine is a label that respects the sanctity of the paypal transaction.

15$ to the USA
17$ to CANDADA

prices postpaid, paypal to TestosterTunes AT gmail DOT com

Q: Will it arrive in time for a Christmas gift?
A: No.

Q: Can I expect to see this album at my local independently owned music outlet?
A: Certainly, if it's a good one.

Q: When will I have the opportunity to see HOME BLITZ play live?
A: In Philadelphia at Johnny Brendas Jan 8 w/ KV & the VIOLATORS and Strapping Fieldhands. In New York Jan 9 at Death by Audio w/ BLUES CONTROL and ROT SHIT. In Texas at SXSW if you're lucky.

Pink Reason in Brizzy

Here's a treat... it's a youtube video of Pink Reason recorded down in Brisbane, Aus. It's an uncharacteristically sunny tune called "Down on Me" and it's performed by the toughest sounding PR lineup ever assembled.. Jewel/Horseshit/Failure.

Well, the calender has just about turned over and we still haven't discussed The Load by the HOMOSTUPIDS. Time to correct that oversight. After all, this web presence was originally conceived as a fan site devoted to the Stupids. These guys been at the forefront of black-hole Skull Music ever since Handsome Steve Peffer learned to program a drum beat. It really hit the fan when he picked up an undersized bass-guitar and tracked down a couple of creeps to fill out the lineup. In a time when every twit on earth seems to get a homemade tattoo, throw reverb on his vocals, and start a band in brooklyn, Cleveland's Homostupids stand alone as the pre-eminent scuzz/hate group on the planet. The only one worth a nickel, really. Some circles have been anticipating this release for a while, as it was rumored that the whole album had been shelved. They've been fluffing us for a while with vinyl-only singles of questionable value on obscure labels and rare appearances outside of Ohio, but this is pretty much it... the second full-sized record. It's got about a dozen tracks on it, and it just barely exploits 24 inches of playable surface at 45 rpms. It gives some nods to GG, it's provocative, and it shows some unexpected swagger. Besides, every single record ever made would be improved if it had 'Flies Die' on it...

Well here's a real piece of art. It's a photograph of some buzzing amps that the Mega Jam Booze Band uses to rehearse one tune at a time. And there's a couple drums too. Some guitars as well. Anyway, you readers can expect some update at some time. There's a lot to discuss.. new Homostupids LP "The Load", Purling Hiss, some live Home Blitz dates, KV trucking out to the midwest, etc. You might as well know that the Puerto Rico Flowers are resurfacing in Australia. Just use google to learn more about those topics. Here's that photo..

Friday Night Live Music in Phila

Be sure to check BLUES CONTROL as they kick off the U.S. leg of their yearlong world tour in support of the impeccable Local Flavor. It'll be this Friday night at the Pi Lambda Pi House at 3914 Spruce in West Philadelphia. Openers include WATERY LOVE, PUERTO RICO FLOWERS, and HER DEAD TWIN. Recent events at this particular frat house have boasted a totalitarian preference for sobriety, so please be prepared to hide your beer in a coffee cup or some shit and be particularly discreet with your needle drugs. Otherwise, expect to feel the shame of getting yelled at by some freshman Ivy League elephant-walker.

Also, Go Phils.

KV across the USA

Alright nation, you're in for a treat. Ol' Kurt Vile is packing up his world-class Violators into a red van and hitting the road. It'll be a monthlong trip with stops in the major metropolises as well as in such exotic locales as Missoula, Arcata, and Fayetteville. Gigs in NYC and Oberlin, Ohio look especially promising. Check these dates and make arrangements to take off work or jack a car or whatever it takes to catch these hair-farmers in the flesh.

Uriah Killingher on Phils & Birds

Checked in with Kensington's notorious sandlot ballplayer Uriah Killingher recently. We tuned the radio to hear the Phils fight their way to clinching the NL East as we hashed over post-season possibilities and scenarios. Contributions from Pedro, the reawakening of Raul's bat, the career-year from Werth, a recent grand slam from Feliz, Bruntlett's triple play, the need for some rest before playoffs, pitching woes... we covered all the big topics. He expressed cautious optimism at the Phils' chances at a repeat. One thing is certain: there are some tough teams standing between the Phils and another parade up Broad Street, but the 2009 squad has the talent and the heart to make it happen.

Also got a peak at Ryan Howard's autograph, which was awarded to Uriah at a clinic he attended at Richie Ashburn Field at FDR Park.

We hoped to get some insights into his father's hard rock band, Birds of Maya, but it turns out that Uriah "never really heard them", despite living in the house where they practice and having attended a recent outdoor gig.

See Birds of Maya live in concert, Saturday October 3 @ Kong Fu Necktie in Phila w/ Kurt Vile & the Violators; Wednesday October 7 @ the Mercury Lounge in NYC.

Cover Story

Yo check it out.. Ol' Kurt Vile made the cover of this week's edition of the liberal newspaper called the Philadelphia Weekly. This fine piece with goofy puns as titles was penned by a fine scribe named Brian McManus and some guy called Mike snapped the photos. Set your web browser to the following link for a full-on multi-media presentation...

Sunday, September 27, 2009

Each evening for the past week or so we've clasped our hands and prayed to God. We put our faith in Her that She ensures that the left wrist of Carlos Ruiz makes a speedy recovery and he can soon put his mask back on and get behind the plate for our Philadelphia Phillies. The guy is a goddamn warrior and we'll need his mercenary mentality, his fearless defense of home plate, and his rifle arm in the postseason.

To read more about this distinguished Major League catcher, click on this link and search "Carlos Ruiz."

A Rare Treat: 3 music reviews

Here ya go, readers. Not very timely, but these releases fit the narrow scope of this weblog..

FRESH CUTS & CIGARETTE BURNS compilation single
Criminal IQ Records

Well, here’s a 6 band compilation single on Criminal IQ. I’m under the impression that the cover I have a rush-job for t
est-presses. Let’s hope so, as it’s below par for even the low standards of this weblog. At any rate, we can only hope that the “Steve Firth” responsible for the art received a passing grade in a community college graphic design course. The music? The FNU Ronnies start it off with one of their best. Fans will recognize it as a staple of their live set. It’s called “Ain’t No Place” and it’s a goddamn punk scorcher with a stiff shouted robotic chant on top of it all. The type of tune that the Ronnies exceed at. Up next is the surprise winner of the record… “Fuck Kids” by Sick Jump! Not sure if the title should be read as a demand or a sentiment, but it’s a fucking rager. Loud guitar, foaming vocals, lashing-out kind of vibe to this. Seems kind of indebted to the Boston Crew.. specifically Gang Green and Jerry’s Kids. The record’s worth the price for these 45 seconds alone. This one’s high in the running for tune of the year. The record takes a nosedive from there. The plane crashes right into the goddamn mountain. A couple tracks are inspired by British accents and skinny-tie type music. At the end is pretty serviceable HC pro-drug tune from Clevo’s Flying Trichecos, but who has the patience to wade through the nonsense that comes before it?

SICK JUMP! Cassette
38/100 self released

Here’s a pretty handsome cassette from the Philadelphia area’s possibly defunct Sick Jump! And I can assure you that the band and not me provides the explanation point at the end of their moniker. It’s got a nice looking package, a photo of some zonked-looking band members, and about a dozen compelling song titles. I was hoping that the music on this tape would live up to the standard set on their track on the compilation described above, but there’s no way to tell because the fucking drug addicts in the band forget to dub any of their own music onto the cassette. Instead I’ve got a tape of some jazz-guy named Boyd Raeburn that’s been defaced by a Sick Jump sticker. If anyone out there as heard this thing, please get in touch. I’d love to read about it…

Fan Death Records

Ah, the New Flesh. With the exception of TUI, they’re just about the only worthwhile outfit from Baltimore. This is a reissued, pro-made cassette of their original demo recorded in 2003 back in the classic Danny Propert/ Rick Weaver/ Jason (fucking) Donnells phase of the band. Real thuggish and ugly, the rhythm section cooks up a trebly swirl, while the guitar kind of grinds up against it. Despite the occasional blast-beat, this shit just builds and builds and gets tenser and tenser with no release. Tortured vocals give it a real alienating vibe… kinda distant and addressed to no one in particular as opposed to being pissed off. Howling at the moon, I guess. Hard to take on repeated listens… it’s got a pretty gross sound. Any sicko who likes this should seek out a copy of their split 12” with a group called Puke Attack. That one still gets a lot of spins around here.

"Shitman" tracklist and buying instructions..

Yo squad..

Well my little email inbox is all cluttered up. "How do I get my shitty hands on a copy of the Fmen album?" "Yo brah, what's up with that Fmen shit? I got to hear it!" and "I've been sucking dicks for weeks.. which one do I need to suck on to get this Fmen album?" Well, it's this one. Americans are encouraged to Paypal $14 to with the message "I want to suck on that thing" and we'll get one to you. Canadians? paypal $16. The rest of you? $21. You don't like paypal? Shoot over an electronic mail.

This record is also available from Midheaven/Revolver, Fusetron, Parts Unknown, Florida's Dying, My Mind's Eye, Missing Link, and at the finer record shops in the nation and the world.

Astute listeners will note that, like My War, Shitman climbs a peak of psychosis on side b. Tracks like "Treblinka (Going Back)", "Blank Dream", "Are You Hungry", and "Timmy's Lament" will really appeal to all you sociopaths with turntables and paypal accounts.

Here's the tracklist ...

BLUES CONTROL record release event in NYC, USA

ATTN: all readers condemned to the Mid-Atlantic region.

This coming Saturday evening, BLUES CONTROL
is hosting some sort of party at an art gallery in Brooklyn, NY in honor of their recent, stellar album titled "Local Flavor". You all are encouraged to attend despite the poor choice of venue and locale. You'll get to see BC (possibly joined by KV and Jesse Turbo) and others (including some kind of six-string street performer...) play some music and you'll get to look at an entire room of paintings which were painted by a painter named Octavius Neveaux and inspired by the band. The band BLUES CONTROL. Evidently the guy would listen to one BC tune all day long and paint the day away, filling up a canvas with something that may or may not refer to his soundtrack for that day.

So it's at a place called the Cinders Gallery at 103 Havemeyer St and it starts at 7 and ends at 11. See ya there..

There's likely more detailed information provided here.

Thursday, July 23, 2009

2 web-based videos of questionable quality and merit..

Excellent subjects though. Here's something to watch about CLOCKCLEAN ER and then something about BLUES CONTROL.. Keep an eye peeled for Andy Giles in the Cleaner vid. No unexpected guests in the BC segment..

“Shitman” is the new record from Cleveland’s FACTORYMEN. It’s a thirteen track, double-sided vinyl album that will be wildly praised by some and categorically dismissed by others. You probably already know where you stand.

I'll tell ya what. There's a lot of unsung heroes in this business. We're talking about SHOW BUSINESS. Behind each KURT VILE track is an equally gifted recording engineer. Behind each HOMOSTUPIDS release -- a similarly tasteless entertainment manager. The FNU RONNIES? They're likely fueled by a thankless provider of illegal stimulants. So CLOCKCLEAN ER... those guys were blessed to have in their camp a true professional. He's an accomplished model and actor with parts in television programs and full-length feature films. Of course, we're talking about ROBERT BOILEAU. He's appeared in truTV's Forensic Files, M. Night Shamalan's "The Happening", and pictured in the gatefold to CLOCKCLEAN ER's "Babylon Rules".

Take a look at some his work right here on YouTube, an internet-based video sharing network. And this is just a taste. Look for him later this year opposite Reese Witherspoon in a film with noted Professional Sports Fan Jack Nicholson..

Here he is in THE HAPPENING.. skip ahead to 3:45 and peak to Mark Wahlberg's left. (MARKS'S LEFT!! NOT YOURS!!)

And here's Bob in a pilot-commercial for the Subway Hoagie Chain. It was rejected. He is only featured in the beginning and the end. The middle is pretty stupid.
